Once we half reluctantly and half willingly leave the comfort of living with our parents to make our own home, we have a mammoth challenge staring us in the face; major one being how and what are we going to eat??
Here are some mistakes rookie cooks are often guilty of. Fikar not, we’re here to help!

1) Too much in the pan!
Overcrowding the pan is a common error first-time enthusiastic cooks make. If you add too many items to saute nothing will cook properly and some parts might be overcooked.

Beginner’s hack: Saute different items separately as each item is cooked at a particular time and temperature.

2) Salt- too little or too much?
When you embark on your culinary adventure as an independent adult, the chances are you won’t get the estimate of salt in a preparation right the first few times. Do not lose hope. Here’s what you do.

Beginner’s hack:
Keep aside one spoon only for salt and remember to always use only that spoon for measuring. Slowly you’ll get a hang of it.
In case you put too much salt, make a ball of wheat flour and place it in the middle of your dish, covering it with a lid. This will absorb all the extra salt from food.

3) Putting hot food in the fridge.
This one is backed by Science! If you immediately put hot food in the fridge you could be making yourself more prone to contracting a foodborne illness.

Beginner’s hack: You can leave it at room temperature. Once it cools down, place it in the fridge. This will keep your food fresh and you, healthy.

4) Adding garlic too early!

Have you ever experienced the strong sour taste in your food because you added garlic? This happens because garlic burns very fast and changes how your food tastes.

Beginner’s hack: All chefs recommend adding garlic to your dish in the end. You could choose to add it when you saute onions, before it turns dark brown while also adding water or tomato.

This is all for today peeps!
New chefs, you are now ready to conquer the kitchen. May the forks be with you!
