1. Jalebi
One of the most popular sweets in India, the Jalebi originally came from West Asia. Persian-speaking invaders brought the Jalebi to India in the 15th century.
2. Samosa
This delectable savory isn’t actually from India. It has its origins in the Middle East! Originally known as the ‘sambosa’, this snack was brought to India in the 13th century by Middle Eastern traders.
3. Rajma
The all-time favorite of North Indians, the iconic Rajma chawal will surprise you with its roots. The kidney bean was brought to India from Portugal, and the technique of soaking and boiling beans is borrowed from Mexico along with the style of preparation of the gravy.
4. Filter Coffee
Freshly brewed filter kaapi, considered to be the pride of the South is the perfect breakfast accompaniment in most of South India. Lore suggests that Sufi saint Baba Budan discovered this beverage on his pilgrimage to Mecca. Wanting to share his discovery, he brought back coffee beans from Yemen to India and the rest is history.
